About Harpers Ferry Ministers Study Group

A JPD Tradition

For decades, a dedicated group of current and former JPD clergy has met each mid-November for a few days of intriguing study and warm collegiality. We are named after the original site of these sessions, which for many years gathered in Harpers Ferry, WV, but since 2003 we have met in Cacapon State Park just south of Berkeley Springs, WV.

Membership in the Harper's Ferry Ministerial Study Group is open to "UU ministers in fellowship with the UUA, and who are members in good standing of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers' Association, one of the UUMA chapters in the Joseph Priestley District." Others "who move on to other districts, but who wish to maintain membership, may do so, provided they pay dues and continue to honor the covenant" Also, "Interns in candidate status supervised by Study Group members may attend as guests, if accompanied by their supervising members." Qualified newcomers are welcome to attend once as guests, on a space available basis, before deciding whether to become active members of the Study Group.

Our annual gathering takes place in mid-Novmeber. In 2015 we will meet from Sunday evening, November 15 through lunch on November 18. Some colleagues meet up for dinner on the town on Sunday (such as in Berkeley Springs); and there is usually one afternoon without programming and lots of time for social interactions.

Cacapon features a wonderful golf course and there is almost always a sharply contested tournament on one afternoon which offers a suitable prize.

Evening activities include a coffeehouse and cabaret. Be prepared to show your stuff!
